We’re looking to add a new member to the nclud team, to take the role of Senior Art Director. We’re looking for a passionate, inspiring and enthusiastic designer to work alongside our Creative Director in setting the tone and style of both our internal as well as our client initiatives. You can start tomorrow or in six months; the most important piece is that we find the right person to whom nclud will be a good fit for and to whom will be a good fit for nclud. The position will need to be based at our studio in downtown Washington, D.C.
We’re looking for an inspiration junkie and a typography fanatic. We’re looking for a front-end developer who is pushing the limits of HTML5 and CSS3; but adores a grid system and isn’t afraid of the DOM. We’re looking for a visual designer who understands design trends, how to work with them and how to work past them. We’re looking for someone who brings understanding through design; who sees the importance of IA, UX and UI design but also sees those as fundamental givens to being a great “web designer”. We’re looking for a strong design lead that can be a part of a strong design team.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the web, and is excited about being a part of its evolution. We’re looking for someone who understands mobile interfaces and behaviors, someone who embraces social media … not for the hype or self-promotion, but for its impact on user-interaction and behavior. We are looking for someone who understands content and mark-up in the context of search engines without being an “SEO Expert”; we’re looking for someone who appreciates accessibility beyond 508 Compliancy. We’re looking for someone for whom being a designer is who they are, not what they do.
Most importantly, we’re looking for a member of the team. And we do ask that this new member of the team be located at our studio here in Washington, D.C. As a progressive internet type start-up, we know remote/co-location working set-ups work and it’s been proven time and time again. However, we’d like our new Senior Art Director to be in the studio with the rest of the team for true creative collaboration. D.C. is a pretty amazing place to live and work (despite what you might be seeing on this seasons “Real World”).
Competitive salary, 401k, health care, unlimited vacation, a ridiculous work environment and all that good stuff nclud’ed (cute, right?).
We don’t need a resume, as our own Michael Dick recently put it; “Google is the new resume”. We also don’t need a list of awards and we certainly don’t need PDFs.
Just send us a link to your online portfolio and impress us at hello@nclud.com.

I read this entire post and yet I don’t see the following line anywhere:
“We’re looking for someone who can beat Michael Dick in a game of Mario Kart.”
What gives?

@Patrick,
We’ve come to realize that you can become good at Mario Kart; it isn’t a trait we need from start.
Mike, Lauren, Desandro and Doris all had never played prior to joining nclud ... Lauren is now the best and Desandro just beat Lauren for the first time last week—it’s crazy.
But yes, an appreciation for Mario Kart is very much preferred.
