We received an interesting piece of mail today at the studio; it left us a bit excited, confused and anxious to solve the mystery. It was an eight and half by eleven piece of paper with a single U.S. dollar bill attached to it. Above the dollar was an icon of some sort with the message, “Here’s Your First Payment!”
The icon appeared to be a frog leg — but we debated if it could be something else; perhaps three fingers positioned by an ear, as if trying to hear something? But the bigger mystery was in simply figuring who was behind the generous dollar and most importantly, why! Aside from the icon and message the only other thing we had to go on was the return address. We thought perhaps it was some clever direct marketing piece, or maybe someone’s idea of a joke?
So, we did what any good web geek would do … we took a photo and immediately Flickr’ed and Twitter’ed it. Within a few minutes we were able to find out that the source behind the mail was actually an interactive agency, LeapFrog Interactive.
We assume there will be a follow-up mail piece with some more information. An interesting approach to get our attention; hell, we even blogged about it. I suppose most spend more than $2.00 USD getting peoples attention; and nothing speaks louder than cold hard cash!
However, after putting the dollar to good use we sort of lost interest … I just hope the next letter comes with another dollar or it’ll unfortunately make its way into the recycle bin. Keep a look out for yours; your potential junk mail might just surprise you!

Is it possible that they’re contributing to the “imaginary” dollar jar that Dorris always speaks of?

That is very possible. Perhaps this inappropriate jar is taking off on a national level.

Brilliant. But what happens if another letter never comes?

Interesting that you ask! Our second letter came in the mail today!
Now we are just waiting on the third letter! What is the catch, what do we have to buy?

Hey! They’re from where I live (Louisville, KY).
Sadly I have no insight to what they’re doing though. Maybe it’s just that Southern hospitality ;)

We got the first payment and the second payment, but no word for a few days now; it is sort of sad.

I got my first payment today. Time to go buy me a pint at my neighborhood pub!
