What we're made of.
Allowing great talent to do great work is a philosophy, a business model, and a promise. At nclud, we have a multidisciplinary team that collaborates on all aspects of the project lifecycle, from inception through launch. While we encourage all of our employees to develop deep knowledge in a particular discipline, we also expect that they have an understanding and appreciation of every other discipline. We view our team members as falling on a spectrum of capabilities in which each team member's unique skills and experiences are a valuable contribution toward project success.
The following are not “job descriptions” tied to specific employees in the traditional sense, but rather a list of roles within projects. On any given project a single team member's role can vary — the same person who is a Developer on one project might be the lead Designer or supporting Designer on another. We do not have a traditional corporate hierarchy with department heads, creative directors, or team leads. Instead, we only hire senior-level talent who could be creative directors or department heads at another agency but prefer to be hands-on and challenged by a group of peers from whom they can continue to learn and expand their capabilities. Each team member respects the areas of ownership and responsibility of the other members of the team on a per project basis. Within a team, a single person is in charge of each key aspect of project delivery, based on the following roles.
Project Management.
Project Managers are ultimately responsible for the delivery of projects on-time, in-scope, and on-budget. Project Managers at nclud have a broad background in design and development that enables them to effectively communicate with their teams and their clients, and that they use to help fill in the gaps during the course of project delivery. They are not creative directors, but like all team members, they bring a unique perspective to the project that is part of our collaborative process. Project Managers are accountable for the success or failure of each of their projects, and therefore can make decisions for the team when there is not group consensus — but it is their responsibility to seek as much input as possible from the project team.
Project Managers document and maintain project milestones, meetings, deliverables, and any changes to the scope of the project. Project Managers always create and manage project schedules that they disseminate to the team, while setting and enforcing deadlines. They use these same schedules to work with other Project Managers to manage staff resource allocations. Project Managers at nclud are critical team members who ensure the ongoing client satisfaction that has made our company successful.
Open Positions: Project Manager
User Experience.
User Experience (UX) Strategists are responsible for collecting, documenting, and analyzing client needs and goals and developing a strategy to address them. UXers work with designers, developers, engineers, and project managers to achieve strong visual and technological solutions without sacrificing usability. UXers at nclud listen to clients but they approach their analysis of client audiences and goals from an outside perspective that allows them to see solutions that our clients can not. UXers must not only identify solutions to client business problems, they must also effectively articulate options to clients with clarity and confidence.
UXers are responsible for producing deliverables such as sitemaps, wireframes, and process flows in support of a project, but they always work with their project teams to vet ideas across disciplines and solicit other ideas. UXers conduct stakeholder interviews, usability studies, card sorts, and lead collaborative and group activities as a project requires, then they socialize the results with both clients and other team members. User Experience is an area that is critical to nclud's success, as it is the most direct link to both identifying business problems and measuring the performance of our solutions.
Open Positions: Experience Designer
Design.
Designers are problem solvers who use visual media to develop solutions for our clients that are on-brand, aesthetically pleasing, engaging, and elegant in their simplicity while ultimately solving business problems for our clients. Designers at nclud collaborate with other team members (User Experience, Development, Engineering, and Project Management) throughout the design process to ensure the result of their work pushes the envelope of what's possible, but never exceeds the boundaries of what's practical or attainable. Individual Designers may be in a lead role on one project and a supporting role on another.
Designers have a strong attention to detail and are responsible for ongoing quality assurance of their own work, as well as ensuring the that final build matches their vision through development, engineering, and launch. Designers always store their files in version control and create assets that are easily digestible by other team members. Designers are responsible for producing the design systems, interfaces, and interactions that have made nclud a leader in creative agencies.
Open Positions: Designer
Development.
Developers are responsible for translating the results of the User Experience and Design process into standards-compliant websites and applications. Developers work with Designers, Developers, Engineers and Project Managers from project inception through completion to ensure not only that the resulting product is attainable, but also to push the envelope of what's possible using modern web technologies and interactions. Developers at nclud are always learning new techniques and technologies, and bringing that knowledge to the rest of the team.
Developers are responsible for many CMS implementation and template development tasks, but defer to Engineers when custom software solutions, modules, or integrations are needed in support of their project assignments. Developers are vigilant about both version control and quality control. Developers at nclud have historically pushed the industry forward, and our thought leadership in front-end technologies remains a key differentiator for our company.
Open Positions: Full Stack Developer
Content Strategy.
Content Strategists at nclud are responsible for determining and documenting client business goals and user needs. Content Strategists audit existing content and create a comprehensive plan for future content: what needs to be created/edited/removed, how, when, by who, and where. Content Strategists support User Experience Strategists to help establish meta data frameworks, implement taxonomies and classification schemes, and develop site structures.
Content Strategists work on an ongoing basis with clients, both before and after launch, to help create and deliver content and to measure the ongoing success of content creation campaigns via analytics and social media reporting tools. Content Strategists are a critical component through the life cycle of client engagements at nclud, and a strategic role that helps distinguish us from our competitors.
Marketing Strategy.
Marketing Strategists are responsible for creating and managing internal and client marketing campaigns, including: Social Media, PR, SEO, PPC, Events, Experiential, and more. Marketers work to not only define strategies, but also to measure their success and make ongoing recommendations to approaches in an agile fashion. Marketers research competitors, and support UXers to contribute to development of strategy deliverables in the discovery phase of projects as appropriate.
Marketers work with Project Managers to foster ongoing communication with existing clients to provide both ongoing marketing support and to suggest new ideas and initiatives to our clients. Marketers often have direct communication with clients, but always keep the Project Managers in the loop.
